Elon Musk wins bet – Installs South Australia Powerpack Facility in 100-Days with 100 Mw Capacity ,a World Record

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has promised to help South Austalia’s energy problems by installing a massive 100-megawatt, a 129-MWh battery in 100 days and delivered in time.

The new  100-megawatt Powerpack battery backup system will provide a cheaper and more reliable energy source.  The Hornsdale Wind Farm facility will boast the largest megawatt rating for any grid-connected battery installation in the world.

Musk earlier said he will install the plant in less than 100 days else he will provide it for free. The project was completed in less than 60 days after signing the contract on September 29. It would have cost $50 for Telsa if they have failed to install on time

He congratulated the crew and SA Authorities on twitter earlier today. “Congratulations to the Tesla crew and South Australian authorities who worked so hard to get this manufactured and installed in record time!” — Musk tweeted

More than 1.7 million people lost power in last years storm resulting in a widespread blackout.  Powerful winds shut down wind farms and knocked down power lines.

When the state was struggling to rebuild their own infrastructure, in March musk made an important announcement in twitter that Tesla could create a system with their Powerpacks for the Hornsdale Wind Farm in 100 days.

“Tesla will get the system installed and working 100 days from contract signature or it is free.”– he tweeted.

“The world’s largest lithium-ion battery will be an important part of our energy mix, and it sends the clearest message that South Australia will be a leader renewable energy with battery storage.”– said Jay Weatherill

The powerpack facility will provide enough power for over 30,000 homes in South Australia.
